Alma Singer is the working name for Kent-based artist Carla Nizzola. Carla’s playfully thought provoking work explores issues around value, art, identity, and female sexuality. Working under a pseudonym allows Carla to overcome the insecurities that come with exhibiting her work, and presents her with the opportunity to reveal aspects of herself that are often hidden from view. Her work explores issues around value, identity, relationships, and The Art Market, all with a self-deprecating humour that pokes fun at some of the things we all take more seriously than we should. Alma's art combine images and text and are created in a purposely naive style which Alma describes as ‘rubbish’, and which is on occasion is in contrast to the underlying subject matter.
