What differs this portfolio from its predecessor is Warhol’s use of bolder, brighter colours, and an advanced screen-printing technique that allows him to depict the soup cans as life-like and realistic as possible

Chicken ‘n Dumplings is a 1969 print from Andy Warhol’s portfolio: Campbell’s Soup Cans II. This series was created a year after the original Campbell’s Soup Can portfolio. The portfolio depicts an array of soup flavours, from Chicken ‘n Dumplings, to Cheddar Cheese, to Clam Chowder. What differs this portfolio from its predecessor is Warhol’s use of bolder, brighter colours, and an advanced screen-printing technique that allows him to depict the soup cans as life-like and realistic as possible. In doing so, this series transforms an advertisement into a work of art.

As the truest representation of contemporary reality, Warhol drew his inspiration from materialism and mass manufacturing, rejecting the Abstract Expressionists' inspiration from human emotions and experience. He elevated consumerist products that were dismissed as commodities into works of art by seeing their beauty that most people looked over. Warhol provokes us to wonder, "Why is this not art?", and to see even the most ordinary of items as a possibility of artistic inspiration. Warhol takes the ordinary and transforms it into something extraordinary. Warhol’s portrayal of common objects, such as soup cans, represents an experience of both consumers and the general American public, making a type of art that is accessible and relatable to all. They also provide as an unmistakable depiction of Warhol's own aesthetic and viewpoint on consumer culture. Warhol saw something spiritual in the banal, discovering a feeling of respect in the everyday items of consumption. He was able to reinterpret traditional ideas of art thanks to this viewpoint, which had an impact on later generations of avant-garde artists. "Campbell’s Soup Cans II: Chicken ‘n Dumplings" not only stunned the world, but it also had a major influence on the beginning of a new artistic movement that will go down in art history as a lasting masterpiece.
