  • About Andy Warhol Eric Emerson (Chelsea Girls)

The screenprint appropriates and reworks a frame from Chelsea Girls, translating the cinematic image into Warhol’s unmistakable visual language. Rendered in neon hues, the composition fragments and repeats Emerson’s likeness, with partial duplications and colour shifts that heighten its graphic intensity. This repetition echoes Warhol’s broader Pop strategy of serial imagery, in which meaning accumulates through variation. Chelsea Girls, shot largely at the Hotel Chelsea, followed a circle of Warhol’s New York acquaintances, including Nico. By revisiting Emerson years after his death, Warhol aligns him with other cultural figures he memorialised, such as Marilyn Monroe and John F. Kennedy, reinforcing his fascination with fame, mortality, and media legacy.
