    Andy Warhol Lenin (F & S II.402)

Lenin is a striking late screenprint by Andy Warhol portraying Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin. Created more than sixty years after Lenin’s death and during the final years of the USSR, the work exemplifies Warhol’s practice of transforming politically charged imagery into powerful Pop Art icons. Rather than engaging directly in ideology, Warhol foregrounds image, fame, and visual authority. As commentator Bob Colacello observed, politics combined two of Warhol’s enduring fascinations: power and celebrity. In Lenin, historical weight is distilled into a bold, graphic composition that reflects the artist’s enduring ability to provoke.
