Andy Warhol SAS Passenger Ticket (F & S II.20)
Meaning & History"Warhol reinvented a number of seemingly ordinary objects in his own exhuberant style"
‘SAS Passenger Ticket’, created in 1968, is a screenprint refashioning an airline ticket to Stockholm, showcasing the artist’s modified ‘ready-mades’. Throughout his illustrious career, Warhol turned to a number of seemingly ordinary objects – tickets, newspaper cuttings and household objects, reinventing them in his own exhuberant style and elevating them to the status of the art.
In this screenprint the artist’s bold swirls and shapes are visually stunning against a yellow background. The artist’s hand-writing and personal ownership of the ticket add to the uniqueness and rarity of this work.
SAS Passenger, Lincoln Centre Ticket, Paris Review and Purple Cows produced in quick succession show Warhol’s deft ability to use everyday objects, that are often overlooked, to reveal their inner beauty and worth. Explore Andy Warhol prints for sale.
