Andy Warhol Untitled 12 (F & S II.120)
Meaning & HistoryThis striking print combines Warhol’s most best-known images at the time in his career.
Untitled 12 is a screenprint created in 1974 for a larger portfolio entitled For Meyer Schapiro.
This monochrome print is striking in that although barely distinguishable, it combines Warhol’s most best-known images at the time in his career. At the center of the image is Warhol’s soup can, stripped of its usual vivid red and instead recognisable by its black and white text. Behind this impression is a cow (from the Cow Series, 1966) and Brillo Pads (Brillo Box (Soap Pads) 1964. The superimposing of images speaks to Warhol’s affinity for both manipulating photographs and repetition.
Untitled 12 distorts and toys with Warhol’s famous Campbell;s Soup Can motifs seen in the Campbell’s Soup Can I and Campbell’s Soup Can II portfolios. Explore Andy Warhol prints for sale.
