    Roy Lichtenstein deviated from his creations of cartoon-themed Pop art in the mid-1950s to apply his Pop art spin to the more traditional concept of landscape painting. In 1967 he devised the Ten Landscapes series which captured a multitude of different views – horizons, sunsets, sunrises and cloudy days – through a variety of collaged materials. The resulting series is a bold treatment of innovative and imagined settings, inspired from elements in cartoons, advertising and mass media. 

    From a series of 100, Landscape 8 is numbered, signed and dated in pencil. The top third of the print features a silver-hued moon made from Iridescent silver Mylar collage against a black background, the night sky. The light reflections on the lower portion of opaque black Rowlux and grey moiré Rowlux creates a delicate shimmer, whilst the downward grooves and ridges create a vertical motion. 

    Ten Landscapes was Lichtenstein’s first solo print portfolio.
