The second of Roy Lichtenstein’s Six Still Lifes series, Still Life with Figurine uses a range of Lichtenstein’s commercial aesthetic Pop art elements to portray a still life scene. 

Featuring an assortment of objects including a figurine clasping his hands or reading a scripture whilst surrounded in rosary beads, the image displays spiritual overtones with its shrine-like ensemble. The presence of the plate in the centre resembles mirrors that Lichtenstein has explored in his earlier works, which makes the combination of spirituality and reflection here particularly pertinent as though the viewer is confronted by their own reflection amid the presence of spiritual objects. 

Natural elements, such as the leaves, flowers and bamboo sticks, frame the central spiritual components, whilst the striped shading of the plate is reflected in the milk jug and background behind. Bright yellow bamboo sticks adorn the left of the composition and the flat yellow surface of the table presents a range of textures in this print.
