Warhol changed the cultural scene forever by making people reevaluate previously accepted standards of artistic decorum, worth, and inspiration with his Soup Cans.

Andy Warhol once claimed that he drank Campbell’s soup almost every day for 20 years; "I used to drink it. I used to have the same lunch every day, for 20 years, I guess, the same thing over and over again." Therefore, it should be no surprise that Warhol turned to perhaps one of the most mundane aspects of his everyday life as artistic inspiration, as Campbell’s soup played a bigger part in Warhol’s life that one may have first thought.

Hot Dog Bean is a screenprint from perhaps Warhol’s most iconic ever portfolio: Campbells Soup Cans II, crated in 1969 one year after the original series. Warhol was drawn to the manufactured and processed, as opposed to taking inspiration from passion, aggression, and human struggle like the Abstract Expressionists did. He viewed commonplace goods like soup cans as both a sign of human success in industrialization and commercialism and a classic embodiment of contemporary American society. His Pop Art is starkly at odds with the visceral aesthetic of the Abstract Expressionists; his soup cans are dispassionate, indifferent, and emotionless. Still, a formalist reading of Warhol's soup cans is not inevitable. They exhibit Warhol's ability to defy the prevailing art tendencies of his day and are thematically rich.

Hot Dog Bean Soup has surely come to be recognised as a signature of modern art as well as Pop Art. One of the most iconic images from the Pop Art era, the Soup can series reflects Warhol's fascination with capitalist symbolism and consumer society. The Pop Art movement was greatly enhanced by this series, making it possibly one of the most significant and influential art movements of the late 20th century. Warhol changed the cultural scene forever by making people reevaluate previously accepted standards of artistic decorum, worth, and inspiration with his Soup Cans.
