    "A photographic print collage of the sea beneath presents the soft, puckered surface of the ocean with a faint golden-rose glow of the sun."

    Roy Lichtenstein’s series Ten Landscapes which he created in 1967 presented imagined views of scenic landscapes. Using a plethora of plastics and materials, he approached the works by creating a collage effect through the merging of different materials. In the mid-1960s, Lichtenstein moved away from his comic book themes to explore the possibilities of playing with the more traditional theme of landscapes, through an industrial, mass-media approach.

    Landscape 6 is from an edition of 100 and numbered, signed and dated in pencil. A blue-green moiré Rowlux is used to define the sky, with the grooves and ripples of the plastic creating a shimmering and shifting dance with the light. A photographic print collage of the sea beneath presents the soft, puckered surface of the ocean with a faint golden-rose glow of the sun. The duller photographic impression of the sea strikingly contrasts with the glimmering gloss of the Rowlux sky separated by a screenprinted strip of black Benday dots on a white background surrounded by a thick black border to depict a bold horizon line. This third element gives a more rigid, graphic hardness to anchor the print.
