David Hockney’s Untitled No.468, 2010, is one of four artworks, which accompanied the release of his ‘visual autobiography’, A Bigger Book, 2017. It is part of his groundbreaking digital drawings series, in which Hockney depicted a rare artistic ability by creating timeless images through his Apple Ipad screen.Untitled No.468 depicts a simple interior scene, in which a terracotta plant pot sits atop a black wooden side table. The still life detail has clearly been done in haste: quick brushstrokes, colour shading, digital pen marks skate across the surface creating a familiar environment.Hockney set new ground as an established artist who was one of the earliest to embrace changing technology from the get-go: he created this artwork the first year the Ipad was released and he doesn’t try to hide his digital renderings, instead remarking that he enjoyed the possibilities and instincts of the digital medium, as you could always ‘undo’ the brushstrokes. -
