David Hockney’s 2^nd March 2021, A Closer Look at Some Tulips, 2021, depicts the same original white ceramic vase as the first two images, 30^th January 2021, The First One and 4^th February 2021, Flowers in White Vase with Chair, 2021.

From the slim shaped white ceramic vase sprouts three pink tulip buds on bright green stems: some of the stems are super thin and upright others are thicker and folded over the edge of the vase. The ceramic vase sits on a red gingham tablecloth, like the other images in the series, and a looming shadow reflecting one of the green leaves is refracted onto the tablecloth.

Since the solid burgundy background wall and the gingham table cover remain consistent amongst the images, the viewers gaze is directed to the simple vase and flower scene, as Hockney intensely observes these spring-like blooms.

In 2^nd March 2021 A Closer Look at Some Tulips, Hockney uses the distinctive still life with flowers genre to examine themes of hope, joy and renewal and to find solace in simple pleasures.
