In 20^th February 2021, Jug with Flowers, 2021, Hockney takes an antique looking jug that might fit in an old master still life portrait, yet inverts it by turning the jug away from our view in an artwork that is created on a digital screen.

The jug is elegant and ornate, depicted in muted blue tones, with a delicate surface pattern that contrasts against the bright, graphic blue gingham tablecloth. Overspilling from the jug is a large, vibrant bouquet of flowers, which one might expect to see at a grand celebration yet sits within the antique jug. Shadows of these large blooms reflect onto the blue gingham tablecloth at all angles, depicted as graphic lines, abstract shapes or strips in multiple shades of deep blue.

The flower bouquet is full of joyful flower buds: yellow tulip heads, a pink chrysanthemum, white magnolia amongst the verdant green thin stalks and leaves. Hockney requires the viewer to intensely observe this floral arrangement, each line and form of the artwork is considered and depicted in the finest detail: although created on a flat digital surface, the image is so vibrant and the details so fully rendered, that the flowers and jug feel tangible as if we could smell and touch them in real life.
