    Electric Chair (F&S II.82) is a 1971 screenprint from Andy Warhol’s electric chairs series, part of his broader Death and Disaster portfolio. This series delves into the darker aspects of the latter half of the twentieth century, highlighting American society’s fixation on death and disaster as reflected in media consumption. Few artists have captured the duality of public consciousness during this era as effectively as Warhol. In his work, violence, materialism, and celebrity hold equal significance, reflecting the intertwined nature of these themes in his imagination.

    In the screenprint, the electric chair stands out with its stark, lifeless presence. Its minimal detail and lack of consciousness amplify the thematic exploration of mechanisation, where this inanimate object becomes a tool of destruction.
