Andy Warhol Kiss (F & S II.8) For Sale

Kiss is a screenprint on plexiglass created by the artist in 1966. Originally created for the project Seven Objects in a Box, the plexiglass features a still from Warhol’s own film of the same title, produced three years earlier. 

 Kiss was Warhol’s first film and showcases what can be seen as the most avant-garde and experimental point in his career. The people featured in the film included prominent artists, actors and writers of New York art scene, of which Warhol was a key player. His studio, known as ‘The Factory’, was a touchstone for parties and cultural happenings in the Sixties and is where the film was produced.  

The film showed three couples, opposite and same sex kissing for three minutes, with minimal sound. Undeniably provocative, it sent shockwaves through the art world and general public, with some cinemas refusing to play it. Here, the film still reproduced three times is brimming with sensuality as the viewer is confronted with a close-up of the couple face-to-face.
