    Letter to the World (the Kick) is a print created by Andy Warhol in 1986 as part of his Martha Graham portfolio. Despite their seemingly unlikely friendship, the two artists shared deep respect and admiration for each other's work. Warhol created this portfolio to honour the 60th anniversary of the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance in New York, aiming to pay tribute to the woman regarded as the most prolific and pioneering dancer and choreographer of the 20th century, coined as the "Picasso of dance."

    This print is incredibly dynamic and captivating, capturing the moment that Graham tilts forward on one leg, kicking the other back into the air. Warhol adds weight and dimension to the print through contrasting the black background with Graham’s pink dress, utilising the vibrantly coloured lines to add texture to the creases of the dress. This adds a sculptural quality to Graham, as Warhol captures the drama of the movement of her dress.
