Andy Warhol Paris Review (F & S II.18)
Meaning & History"Characteristically, the artist plays upon the distinctions between ‘high’ art and ‘low’ art."
Paris Review in a screenprint produced in 1967, commissioned for the literary magazine of the same title. The publication was known for its works published by some of the most celebrated writers of the twentieth century.
Warhol’s wit and ingenuity is seen best here in this enlarged screen-print of a receipt from the Regency Hotel for two bottles of scotch and one bottle of Vodka. Characteristically, the artist plays upon the distinctions between ‘high’ art and ‘low’ art by submitting the receipt to a magazine known for its highfalutin articles.
Paris Review, Purple Cows, Lincoln Centre Ticket and SAS Passenger, produced in quick succession show Warhol’s deft ability to use everyday objects, that are often overlooked, to reveal their inner beauty and worth. Explore Andy Warhol prints for sale.
