    In Space Fruit: Lemons, each of the ten lemons is rendered with slight variation — some outlined in sketch-like lines, others printed with blue or pink shadows that create a sense of depth and movement. These chromatic shifts imbue the composition with a dreamlike, almost cosmic quality that justifies the title. The unnatural colouring and stylised repetition push the still life toward abstraction, while maintaining Warhol’s crisp graphic clarity. The work recalls his collage-like experimentation in the Gems series and echoes compositional strategies seen in Ladies and Gentlemen. At the same time, the print nods to Warhol’s early career as a commercial illustrator, with a lightness and immediacy reminiscent of works such as Flowers (Black and White) and Flowers (Hand-Coloured), demonstrating his enduring mastery of colour and arrangement.
