Andy Warhol Space Fruit: Lemons (F & S II.196)
Meaning & HistorySpace Fruit: Lemons is incredibly rare work from an edition of ten. The present print portrays ten lemons, scattered across a background of mint green.
Space Fruit: Lemons is a screenprint published by the artist in 1978, a first work in a series of imaginative still lifes entitled Space Fruit. It is an incredibly rare work from an edition of ten.
The present print portrays ten lemons, scattered across a background of mint green. Each lemon is slightly different, having a blue or pink shadow, being sketched or printed by the artist in an altered way, thus imbuing the overall still life with a certain abstractness. The unrealistic quality of Warhol’s fruits compliment his title, Space Fruit.
