Andy Warhol Vote McGovern (F & S II.84)
Meaning & History" I am not a crook".
Vote McGovern is a screenprint created in 1972 in support for George McGovern’s presidential campaign of the same year. It is an important print in virtue of being a very rare example of Warhol’s political stance. Though he painted portraits and prints of prominent political figures, these often carried more meaning in their cultural impression such as Mao. Here, Warhol has rendered the democratic candidate in his typical bright palette, with an unnatural blue face and pink suit.
Warhol would explore politicians in his artworks across his career. Examining the media reach, saturation and reverence that such public figures would provoke other examples include Mao, Edward Kennedy and Lenin.Explore Andy Warhol prints for sale.
