Andy Warhol Watercolor Paint Kit with Brushes (F & S II.288)
Meaning & HistoryThe print is a colourful and playful example of the artist's comissions for charitable causes.
Watercolour Paint Kit is a lithograph executed by artist in 1982 to raise funds for the New York Association for the Blind. Warhol’s palette and brushes possess the real painterly and illustrative decoration with which they would create: different paints appear used, with their colours spilling out of their pans.
This work is also an example of Warhol’s expansive output for fundraising. As a commercial artist, he often created on commission, including for charitable causes. Warhol’s work as an illustrator, of which this print could reference, can also be seen in his the Black and White and Coloured Flowers portfolio which had a more painterly, illustrator feel than the mechanised feel of his other treatment of the subject of flowers. Warhol’s earlier career served him well into his emergence as a pop-artist as he would seek to adapt and experiment with style. Explore Andy Warhol prints for sale.
