"Untitled" is a woodcut created by Keith Haring in 1983. The striking work features two dancing figures set against a backdrop of stylised, hieroglyphic lines, showcasing Haring’s distinctive, graffiti-inspired aesthetic.Rendered in bold red lines, Haring’s minimalist figures appear to be falling backward, surrounded by a dynamic array of crosses, squiggles, and dotted marks. These elements form a visual alphabet of fluid, gestural characters, infusing the work with vibrant energy. The interplay of colour and line brings the theme of movement to life.
The elements in "Untitled," though abstract, function as both universal symbols and key components of Haring’s unique visual language, recurring throughout his body of work. The crossed ‘X’ marks often allude to themes of victimisation and violence, while the radiant beams above the figures’ heads echo the motif of Haring’s famous ‘Radiant Babies.’ Despite the complexity of these symbols, the work’s broad appeal lies in its inherent accessibility.
Untitled highlights Haring’s unique visual style that would see the artist become a mainstay of private collectors, auction houses, galleries and museums worldwide.
