Edition of 40, 10 AP (artist proofs), 5 PP (printers proofs), 3 HC, (hors commerce), 30 TP (trial proofs).
There is also a Royal Edition of 30, 5 AP, 2PP, and 2 HC, sprinkled with diamond dust, notated as FS II.346A-349A).

Published in 1985, Andy Warhol’s print showcases the distinguished monarch: Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
At the time the print was created, Queen Beatrix had been on the throne for just five years, having succeeded her mother in 1980. Beatrix and Queen Elizabeth II were well-known friends and served as symbols of national pride and female authority in the post-World War II era. This portfolio exemplifies Warhol’s talent for capturing significant cultural moments, continuing his fascination with celebrity culture and glamour, as demonstrated in his Marilyn Monroe and Liz Taylor series. The portrayal of royalty, embodying untouchable prestige and adoration, fits seamlessly into Warhol’s artistic realm.
In the print of Queen Beatrix, her hair and attire are rendered in a rich royal blue, which accentuates her pale face—a visage familiar from coins and stamps. Warhol highlights Beatrix’s opulence with a dazzling tiara, brooch, and earrings, set against a contrasting backdrop of blue and brown. True to his style of the time, Warhol overlays vibrant colour blocks on the portrait, featuring Beatrix in a regal pose. This print exudes an air of mystique, reinforcing the exalted status of the Royal Family. The Reigning Queens portfolio is a celebration of power, wealth, and status, imbued with undeniable glamour.
