British artist STIK began painting socially conscious murals in Hackney, East London in 2001. The deceptively simple stick figures that he creates carry deep emotional meaning that connects with collectors across the world. Rooted in a profound sense of what it means to be human, his murals can be found across the globe whilst his editioned prints and paintings have been rapidly appearing at auction and galleries alike. His minimalist motifs are, in part, based on Japanese kanji. The artist states, “I lived in Japan for almost a year in my late teens and picked up this style of drawing, which is closely connected to writing as a shorthand for conveying emotion. It developed from there…”. These works originally appeared in doorways and on sides of buildings while the artist was living in homeless shelters and social housing. Over the years, his prolific output is only matched by his sense of conviction in giving back to communities and through his charity work. Stik maintains a commitment to social justice both inside and outside his studio. Discover our STIK prints for sale and contact sales@andipa.com or call +44 (0)20 7589 2371 for all enquiries.
