Unlike the larger, individual prints from the Pop Shop series, this work is part of a limited edition of 45. The series derives its name from the Pop Shop, a retail space opened by Keith Haring in SoHo, New York, the previous year. These prints exemplify Haring’s distinctive visual language at what can be considered the peak of his career.
In "Pop Shop Quad I," Haring’s unique matchstick figures are depicted holding hands, dancing, and embracing, each box presenting a miniaturised narrative of friendship and celebration. When viewed as a whole, the quad resembles a comic strip, amplifying the theme of unity. Haring’s characteristic use of bold lines and block colours ensures a clear and effective conveyance of the message.
Pop Shop Quad I highlights Haring’s unique visual style that would see the artist become a mainstay of private collectors, auction houses, galleries and museums worldwide.
