Banksy's signed print "Applause" was first released in 2006 during the renowned Barely Legal exhibition, held in a Los Angeles warehouse. "Applause" is part of the iconic Barely Legal set, which also includes "Grannies," "Trolleys," "Morons," and "Festival." Measuring approximately 80 x 112 cm, "Applause" is the largest Banksy print. The artwork depicts a fighter jet on an aircraft carrier's runway, inspired by a famous image of former U.S. President George W. Bush delivering the "Mission Accomplished" speech after the Iraqi invasion. Flanking the jet are two air traffic controllers in bright yellow, high-visibility jackets, preparing the jet for takeoff. One controller holds a sign reading "APPLAUSE," similar to those used in comedy theatres to prompt the audience to cheer on cue.
