This is a signed edition of Banksy’s artwork, created in 2004. The central image of the artwork draws inspiration from the shocking footage of John Hinckley Jr.'s attempted assassination of U.S. President Ronald Reagan. Hinckley, diagnosed as a delusional schizophrenic, harboured a misguided belief that his actions would impress actress Jodie Foster. In the aftermath of the assassination attempt, Hinckley is depicted as a wounded figure, pinned down by armed CIA agents. His defiant rebellion against the law, symbolised by the 1979 Clash song of the same name, is vividly portrayed. Despite firing five shots, none of which caused casualties, Hinckley's attempt to challenge the establishment is ultimately thwarted as he lies paralyzed—a stark symbol of grievous action stymied by the overwhelming power of the state.
