    'View of Hotel Well III is part of the Moving Focus series in which Hockney dramatically evolved his visual language through new exploration of space and perspective: by returning to this hotel scene, the artist continues to warp our view of it, creating in View of Hotel Well III, an image that appears curved and strangely distorted.'
    In View of Hotel Well III, Hockney depicts the familiar Hotel Acatlan (featured in Hotel Acatlan: First Day, Second Day, Two Weeks Later) but immediately subverts the perspective of the inner courtyard to shift our view of it. View of Hotel Well III is the final print of a three-part sequence which continues to explore Hockney’s favourite remote Mexican landmark, in which he used the artwork to not only comment on notions of place and belonging, but to reflect on Mexico itself, ‘it’s not just about the hotel’ Hockney remarked.
    View of Hotel Well III is evidently a study for the larger diptych, Hotel Acatlan: Two Weeks Later, Hockney produced after revisiting the hotel weeks later with new perspective. In View of Hotel Well III, Hockney depicts the inner courtyard from a further step back, utilising his new reverse technique, to create an image that appears as if it’s a triangular shape.
