    David Hockney’s Yosemite Suite No. 19 is a signed Ipad drawing tuned digital print from his seminal Yosemite Suite series, comprising of 24 drawings of Yosemite National Park, all created on the new digital medium.
    Yosemite Suite No.19 is reminiscent of Hockney’s earlier landscapes and although rendered digitally features his signature vibrant colours and playful, graphic approach. The artwork, similar to much of the Yosemite Suite series, focuses in on a singular tree amongst the grandiose woodland of the Yosemite National Park. These are the famed giant sequoia trees of the park, the oldest trees in living history, and whilst we can see dense forest land in the background, the focal point is a singular tree rendered unexpectedly in a bright pink hue.
    The scene is simultaneously familiar yet strange: what actually is the large abstract shape by the pink tree? A fallen rock? The scene is executed in dots, splotches and graphic lines: Hockney manages to immerse us in the feeling of being surrounded by the huge trees from his flat two-dimensional screen surface, cleverly blending reality and illusion.
    Whilst this is obviously a depiction of an area in Yosemite National Park, the location isn’t the focal point, this could be any grand woodland that needs preservation in years to come.
