Yosemite Suite No.4 is one of the most striking of David Hockney’s 24 Ipad drawings turned digital prints of the Yosemite Suite series, created in 2010, the year the Apple Ipad first came out.

Yosemite Suite No.4 vividly recalls his acclaimed early period works, which captured landscapes with trees, rolling hills and winding roads in bold colourways. Here he focuses on the tall trees of a dense woodland: illustrative of Hockney’s love of nature and his desire to capture its restorative powers, the beauty of these bright purple saplings is amplified by the sun gazing through it. Through the sunny haze we can see the recognisable Yosemite National Park greenery in the distance, to look at the print is to experience a meditative power as if immersed in the scenery ourselves.

Yosemite Suite No.4 is one of his most vibrant in colour clashes from the series: acid green trues, electric blue skies and shadows compounded by the purple trees.
