David Hockney Lightroom exhibition

Opening on 17 June at the Lightroom in King’s Cross is the immersive exhibition David Hockney: Bigger & Closer. Using large-scale projection, the exhibition allows viewers to immerse themselves in Hockney’s world as sketchbooks, paintings, drawings and sketches from 60 years of his career are projected onto the vast surrounding walls. Seating dotted around the floor of the space invites visitors to sit or sprawl, lean back and bathe themselves in the flow of the large-scale projected artworks.

The exhibition is divided into a cycle of six themed chapters with Hockney’s commentary revealing his process, interspersed with a score by Nico Muhly. From his earlier years in LA, to Yorkshire and the present day in Normandy, his narration accompanies images that experiment with perspective; photography which was as a way of “drawing with a camera”; capturing the passing of time through polaroid collages and the splendour of Spring through his iPad depictions.

Andipa features an array of works by David Hockney in its collection, which includes ‘Sun’ (1973), ‘Two Red Chairs and Table’ (1986), ‘Untitled, 346 Tulips iPad Drawing’ (2010) and ‘Panama Hat’ (1972).
