    Edition 632 unique prints divided as follows: 40 portfolios containing four prints each, signed and numbered in pencil on verso. The remaining 472 prints were used by architects Johnson & Burgee for the Hotel Marquette, Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1981, upon removal from the hotel, these prints were signed, numbered 1/470 – 470/470, and dated in pencil on verso, and two were marked “HC”; they were stamped in black on verso “Hotel Marquette Prints.”

    Sunset is a screenprint by Andy Warhol, created in 1972 as part of his larger Sunset portfolio. This portfolio was commissioned by the architectural firm Johnson and Burgee, resulting in 632 prints to commemorate the opening of the Hotel Marquette in Minneapolis. For each print, Warhol employed three screens: one for the background, another for the horizon, and a third for the sun, skillfully capturing the variations in each phase of the sunset. Sunset II.88 features a harmonious blend of yellow, orange and red tones, with a vivid yellow sun at the centre. This screenprint radiates heat. Warhol's vibrant use of colour transforms the familiar sunset into an abstract Pop Art piece, merging nature with his exploration of artificiality.

    Unlike his earlier works focused on consumerism, celebrity culture, and the darker themes of his death and disaster series, this screenprint showcases a universal symbol of natural beauty.
