    Andy Warhol Fiesta Pig (F & S II.184)

Fiesta Pig (1979) is a playful and vividly coloured screenprint by Andy Warhol, published for readers of the German newspaper Die Welt. Combining humour with sharp social observation, the work depicts a pig investigating the remnants of a dinner party. Bold blocks of yellow, blue, and orange glow against a dark ground, creating the impression of coloured party lights. At once whimsical and pointed, the print exemplifies Warhol’s ability to transform an unexpected subject into a commentary on glamour, spectacle, and social ritual.

  • About Andy Warhol Fiesta Pig

Set against a black background, a brightly illuminated pig stands before a table scattered with plates and glasses, traces of a gathering now concluded. The composition recalls Warhol’s After The Party (1979), which similarly portrays a deserted table, though without the humorous intrusion of a farm animal. By juxtaposing a pig with the refined setting of formal dining, Warhol injects irony into the scene, subtly commenting on class, decorum, and the performative nature of high society. Throughout his career, Warhol moved among cultural elites, forming friendships with figures such as Mick JaggerLiza Minnelli, and Salvador Dalí. Yet works like Fiesta Pig suggest a self-aware critique of fame’s absurdities, delivered with characteristic wit and levity.
