Andy Warhol Kimiko (F & S II.237) For Sale

Kimiko is a screenprint published by the Warhol in 1981, depicting Kimiko Powers, who along with her husband John was one of the principle collectors of Pop Art. 

In this portrait Kimiko appears in a classic kimino, with her hair adorned with traditional Japanese Kanzashi. Through her styling and Warhol’s saturation of colour, the artist conveys Kimiko’s beauty and glamour in the way he had done with stars of the silver screens decades previously. This is also evidenced by Kimiko’s anecdote that Warhol wanted to make a new portrait everytime she changed her hair. 

Retrospectively, as one of the earliest and biggest collectors of Pop Art, this portrait of Kimiko completes a full cyclical journey in its history.
