Keith Haring Untitled Etching 3 (Littman p.112) For Sale

Untitled is an etching created by the artist in 1989 from a small edition of 6. It can be seen as partof three etchings in small editions produced in the same year.  

The work depicts a man mid-run against a background of a desert. The man, a hand still tied with rope, appears to be fleeing. He has muscular proportions and heat – signified by Haring’s plentiful squiggle lines – blazes around him. It is an ambigous scene, but one that can be seen in the context of the two other etchings in the series, which depict marginalised groups. Haring was a strong advocate against societal and political oppression, and often in an African context particularly: a portfolio in 1985 dealt with Apartheid, and another in 1983 tackled women in the Subsahara suffering from AIDs.
