Roy Lichtenstein Haystack #6, State III (Corlett 73)
“The close arrangement of the two colours evokes a burnt-orange impression, suggesting the scorching heat of a hot summer’s day.”
Roy Lichtenstein’s Haystack #6, State III is made from lithograph on Special Arjomari paper from an edition of 13.
Based on Monet’s series of the same name that the Impressionist artist completed in 1890-91, Lichtenstein’s Haystack series captures a series of rural scenes featuring the recurring motif of a haystack that was used to convey the contrasting quality of natural daylight through the diverse depictions of colour: morning in yellow (Haystack #1) to evening (Haystack #6) and midnight (Haystack #7).
Haystack #6, State III features two colours – red and yellow – from two aluminium plates. The close arrangement of the two colours evokes a burnt-orange impression, suggesting the scorching heat of a hot summer’s day. -
