    Roy Lichtenstein’s Water Lilies with Willows 1992 is a screen print using enamel on swirled stainless steel that reinterprets the famous impressionist Water Lily paintings by Claude Monet.  
    A detailed and decorative surface, Water Lilies with Willows is one of Lichtenstein’s most intricate and complex artworks that newly uses swirled stainless steel to create the effect of nature’s motion and movement. He also plays with new muted colourways here, pairing grey, off white, pale sky blues amongst his contrasted black and white outlines.
    Printed on metal, Lichtenstein’s Water Lilies with Willows uses flat areas of colour, Ben Day dots, and the reflective qualities of the material to recreate the extreme painterly quality of Monet’s famous ephemeral work. Lichtenstein distills his Water Lilies to the most basic pictorial elements, the artist hones in on the poignant details he plucks from his scenic panoramas. 
    Water Lilies with Willows is evocative of the advanced graphic style of Lichtenstein’s later work, which skilfully suggests nuanced areas of light and shadow through his use of stencils and overlay.
