    Roy Lichtenstein began exploring the recurring theme of landscapes after his comic-inspired Pop prints in the early 1960s. In 1967, he created the series Ten Landscapes, which incorporated synthetic materials such as Mylar and Rowlux with photo-collage on various wove papers and materials.

    Numbered, signed and dated, Landscape 2 is from an edition of 100. The swirling, shimmering surface – a translucent moiré Rowlux overlay – creates a sense of movement through its reflection of light, creating different effects at different angles. There is a dreaminess to the optical illusion effect of the wavy plastic Rowlux sheets, as though Lichtenstein is creating a hyper reality. The grey lower half and creamy sky suggests an overcast day. The surface ripples play with light to create different effects at different angles, whilst also evoking movement, like a strong wind tearing through the landscape.
