    This graphic, monochrome design from Roy Lichtenstein’s Ten Landscapes series portfolio, features a black screenprint design with an opaque white Rowlux collage. Numbered, signed and dated, Landscape 4 is from an edition of 100.  

    The strip of textured black Benday dots sits underneath a rising sun, with beams outstretched in various line widths. The slightly off-kilter arrangement of the sun’s beams contrasts to the uniformity of the recurring Benday dots seen beneath, suggesting a wildness to the scattering of the sun’s light in contrast to the precision of the landscape. A defined horizontal black line splits the composition. 

    The Ten Landscapes series contains invented views, rather than illustrations of an actual setting. Inspired by comic strips, advertisements and other printed sources, each of the landscape images play with the concept of traditional landscape painting.
