David Hockney Tyler Dining Room (M.C.A.T 261) For Sale

Tyler Dining Room (1984) is a signed lithograph by David Hockney from his ambitious Moving Focus series, a body of 26 prints exploring perception, space, and perspective. Created during a period of collaboration with master printer Kenneth Tyler, the work reflects Hockney’s continued experimentation with printmaking techniques. Tyler, founder of the renowned workshop Gemini G.E.L. and later Tyler Graphics, had previously collaborated with leading Pop artists including Roy Lichtenstein. Together, Hockney and Tyler pushed the technical limits of lithography, producing works that expanded the possibilities of colour, spatial illusion, and narrative within contemporary printmaking.

  • About David Hockney Tyler Dining Room

In Tyler Dining RoomDavid Hockney depicts a domestic interior centred on a large dining table surrounded by nine chairs, though only seven place settings appear on the table. Despite the carefully arranged furniture, the room remains empty of people, creating a quiet sense of anticipation. The space is filled with familiar objects: a vase of flowers placed on a side table, a decorative chandelier hanging from the ceiling, and a vibrant artwork on the wall. Hockney’s distinctive use of colour enlivens the composition, with a bright blue floor contrasting against soft pink walls and warm golden-brown furniture. The scene appears both recognisable and subtly distorted, as the perspective curves inward, almost as if the viewer is observing the room through a rounded lens or within a contained space.
