    Untitled 329 is a signed print from the Ipad drawing of Hockney’s A Bigger Book, which was part of the seminal Art Edition A Bigger Book, sold at auction in January 2017. Illustrative of Hockney’s innovative and evolving artistic practice, Untitled 329 is one of the artworks he created on his Apple Ipad.
    “I do think pictures should speak for themselves.” With the absence of text it encourages people to rely on their own eyes, he believes. 
    The Untitled 329 image incorporates two of his favourite pastimes: flowers and still life through his unique colourist’s eye. It relates back to one of Hockney’s Moving Focus series, Amaryllis in Vase, with a bold pink background and central image of flowers in a vase. Yet only an artist of Hockney’s artistic vision could create something that could be a ‘painting’ through a two-dimensional, flat Ipad screen surface.
    In this artwork, the vase is transparent, however, so we can see the roots of flowers in water; the bright stems look like pink tulips flourishing over the top of the vase. Part of his Digital Drawings series, Hockney renders these traditional still life representations on a new hyper modernist type of surface as if mimicking the process of canvas and paintbrush.
