    16th March 2021, Tulips in Cut Glass, 2021 by David Hockney depicts a simple glass vase filled with a bunch of vibrant flowers, sitting on a red gingham tablecloth. Similarly to the other artworks in this series, 20 Flowers and Some Bigger Pictures, this artwork is set against a solid burgundy background wall.
    The verdant green stems with bright violet and pink buds sit in the transparent vase full of water: the shadow as if refracting off the sunlight through a window (not visible in the image) is depicted as a green coloured strip on the tablecloth. The flowers are each rendered individualistically – some are drooping or beginning to wilt, others are blooming and upright – the stems are smudged with different shades of the same colour creating texture and tone.
    Whilst the still life with flowers image initially appears like a traditional still life, evoking the artworks of Matisse, Cezanne, it is on closer inspection, unfinished and formed from an Ipad medium evolving the language of still life for a new generation.
