    Andy Warhol's Shoes portfolio createdl in 1980 comprises of five screenprints which depict a multicoloured array of footwear. Warhol’s decision to dedicate an entire portfolio to shoes reflects a long-standing fondness for footwear that dates back to before his extraordinary rise to fame. Early in his career, Warhol worked as a fashion illustrator, and in the mid-1950s, he was commissioned by shoe manufacturer I. Miller to create advertisements for the Sunday edition of the New York Times. His shoe illustrations were imaginative, expressive, and undeniably chic. Some were so decorative that he used gold leaf and appliqué for one collection. His work was so admired that Women’s Wear Daily dubbed him ‘the Leonardo da Vinci of the shoe trade.’
