It’s clear that Warhol never lost sight of his origins as a commercial artist, drawing shoes for the New York Times adverts for I. Miller. Shoes became a symbol of his broader fascination with style, glamour, and consumer culture. Reflecting on the creation of his Shoes portfolio, Warhol remarked, "I’m doing shoes because I’m going back to my roots. In fact, I think maybe I should do nothing but shoes from now on."
