Camouflage (F & S. II 412)
"The Camouflage series emphasises the texture and depth achieved by layering, creating a sense of movement and rhythm within the static image."
Andy Warhol’s Camouflage series, created in 1987, is his last print series created before his death. Staying true to his fascination with mass production, Warhol repeated the camouflage pattern across multiple canvases, varying the colour schemes but keeping the pattern consistent. This repetition calls to mind Warhol’s earlier works with consumer products and celebrities, reinforcing his critique of mass production and the repetitive nature of contemporary life. The Camouflage series emphasises the texture and depth achieved by layering, creating a sense of movement and rhythm within the static image. Warhol experimented with different textures and tones, lending a more tactile quality to these pieces compared to his earlier work.
