    This print is imbued with the dynamic intersection between art and music, capturing the 1970s era of rock and roll.

    The Mick Jagger portfolio by Andy Warhol consists of ten screenprints, each showcasing different photographic portraits of the iconic rockstar. Whilst Jagger was inaccessible to the public, Warhol and Jagger were friends and part of the same New York social scene, which added a layer of intimacy to this collaboration. The portraits are based on photographs Warhol himself took of Jagger during a photoshoot at his Montauk estate in 1975.

    This print alludes to the elusive and enigmatic nature of the rockstar, as his eyes are hidden by a strip of black. As a result, only Jagger’s lips and shoulder are visible, as well as strands of his hair. This adds to the sensuality of the portrait, drawing attention to the shadows that fall across his collarbone and chin. Much of Warhol’s oeuvre feature his muses, which range from the actress Marilyn Monroe to the first lady Jackie Kennedy. By placing Mick Jagger alongside his leading ladies, Warhol solidifies Jagger’s status as a twentieth century icon.
