Andy Warhol Lincoln Center Ticket (F & S II.19)Meaning & History
"The screen-print is a perfect example of Warhol’s ability to enrich ‘ordinary’ objects and memorabilia."‘Lincoln Center Ticket’ was produced in 1967 to commemorate the Lincoln film festival of the same year held in New York. The screen-print is a perfect example of Warhol’s ability to enrich ‘ordinary’ objects and memorabilia – a ticket shown here, with bold graphics and colour. Warhol has framed the rectangular outline of the ticket with flat blocks of blue, red and pink. At the centre of the image is a playful graphic floral pattern, added before Warhol layered the text with a separate screen. Flowers are a popular and recognisable motif in Warhol’s work, having their own dedicated portfolio.
