Thrower presents the Flower Thrower figure across a triptych of separate panels, showcasing Banksy's various interpretations of this symbol over the years. Originally appearing on the West Bank wall, spanning 760km and dividing Israel from Palestine, Banksy described the wall as turning Palestine into the world’s largest open prison. The creative process behind Thrower is as innovative as its visual impact. Banksy experimented with a new printmaking technique, spraying the stencil onto processing film and directly exposing it onto a silk screen. This method eschews digital manipulation, resulting in a precise analogue representation of gestural mark making—an approach that, in Banksy's own words, "looks pretty dope." True to Banksy's trademark wit, Thrower was accompanied by humorous assembly instructions: "Do not store indefinitely in a dark place hoping it will increase in value. This work is not intended as an investment commodity - for display purposes only."
