David Hockney In Front of House Looking North For Sale

David Hockney’s In Front of House Looking North is one of four artworks in his The Arrival of Spring: Normandy series that depicts the 17^th century rustic thatched cottage, Le Grande Cour, now Hockney’s permanent home in Normandy, North West France.

Depicting all angles of the house in (In Front of House Looking North, South, East, West) this artwork portrays the house from front on in close-up detail. Although the rustic abode could be anywhere in the countryside, the artist’s playful use of colour and mastery of line and form, makes the artwork instantly recognisable as a Hockney.

The artist uses shades of red and brown, quick lines and ‘brushstrokes’ to depict the slanted, thatched roof, window shutters and tiling of the 17^th century rustic thatched cottage: the window shutters are cast open in a warm, inviting manner and a blue bench sits in front of the house for visitors to engage in nature and lively discussion.
