"Flowers" is a portfolio of five silkscreen prints by Keith Haring, created in 1990, the final year of his life before his tragic death from AIDS-related complications. This series provides a vibrant and celebratory tribute to a similar portfolio by his friend and fellow artist, Andy Warhol.
Although Haring has infused his own distinctive style into the work, the influence of Warhol’s Flowers portfolio is evident. Warhol’s 1970 series featured photographic images of hibiscus flowers rendered in vivid hues. The orange flower within this print bears a striking resemblance to Warhol’s hibiscus, both in appearance and colour palette.
Flowers highlights Haring’s unique visual style that would see the artist become a mainstay of private collectors, auction houses, galleries and museums worldwide.
