'Ink in the Room' was created using a hybrid process combining lithography and 23-colour screenprinting, meticulously produced at Gemini G.E.L. in Los Angeles. Each layer adds texture and depth; blending mechanical precision with expressive surface treatment. In the 1990’s Hockney became inspired by the extended brilliance of colour range which he could encourage into prints as a result of the experimental technical advances of both Gemini and Tytler Graphics studios. The prints of this period, also known by the general title of “interiors” have an absolutely exceptional “excitement” in their colour tonality. This print was drawn on lithography on 3 plates combined with 23 colours on screen print.
